One of my favorite ways to celebrate the milestone of new motherhood is through the beauty of a "Postpartum Closing Ceremony"
This Postpartum Closing Ceremony, also known as "Closing of the Bones" is a cross cultural ceremony used to close the mother physically, spiritually and emotionally.
Almost all traditional cultures have the deep seated knowledge that the new mother is left "open" and vulnerable, following childbirth. Not just physically, but emotionally as well. And to help the mother come back into herself, a special ceremony is performed at 4-6 weeks postpartum, to help with this process.
This is also a time to honor and reverence the newborn mother, and her new role.
The ceremony is performed in your home or in your desired location. (I can offer suggestions, upon request)
You can choose who will enter and sit in this sacred space. It could be just me and you. Or any family or friends that you would want witnessing the magic. A soothing atmosphere will be set, that aids in the process of returning your energy back inward.
This includes fresh flowers, beeswax candles, incense, and soft music.
I will begin by holding space for you. Allowing you to let out any fears, pains, hopes, or dreams from your current space. The ceremony begins with a light head massage, followed by the slow wrapping of the rebozos on all sections of your body.
After you are fully wrapped, you lay in stillness, and I will step to the side, and pray for you. Once you feel ready to emerge, I begin unwrapping from the bottom up.
Slowly.
Mindfully. If the ceremony takes place at home, I will typically get you settled in and resting, with a cup of tea, ceremonial hot chocolate or herbal drink of choice. You will be left resting, and feeling held.
Loved.
Honored.

Note: You don't need to be 6 weeks postpartum to partake in this special offering. Any and all women who have given birth, are welcomed to enjoy it. Whether you are 6 weeks or 6 years and beyond, you are forever postpartum. And you deserve to be honored for your hard work.
